the a.i.r. program

CIMM is pleased to announce an exciting new program, the goal of which is to broaden the community’s understanding of contemporary art by giving local artists the opportunity to immerse themselves in their work, while also providing a unique opportunity to share it with visitors of the Museum.

Artists are encouraged to engage with the CIMM community by hosting instructional workshops for both kids and adults, as well as scheduled times when the artist will be at the Museum, visible and available to visitors for conversations and questions. The program allows for artists to embed within the unique culture of the community and the institution, and provides opportunities for interaction with a broad public.

Resident artists will not be restricted in their work, but instead encouraged to uniquely portray the picturesque view from CIMM’s galleries: the beautiful Channel Islands Harbor. This residency grants access to all of the resources the Museum has to offer; from its rich collection of research materials in the Harry Nelson Research Library, to the one-of-a-kind scenic view of the Harbor, to the Museum's inspiring collection of Masterpiece paintings and beautifully crafted ship models.

Participants will be given a space in the corner of one of the Museum’s galleries that will be visible, but not accessible to the public. A regular schedule will be held for a minimum of 6 hours per week, where the artist will be actively working, and available for interaction with the community. Several weekend events will be held during each month-long residency: a welcome reception for the artist, a workshop for kids, a workshop for adults, and a display of the artist’s work. A small stipend will be available to participating artists.
